Prior to the "blow up", the band had performed tracks such as 'The Gateway Song' and 'Run-Away', from their new album, 'Hey Venus!', as well as older fan favourites. During opener 'Slow Life' lead singer/guitarist Gruff Rhys donned an enormous Power Rangers-style mask while he sang, and sent a text message at the same time. But things were brought to an abrupt halt as the band finished playing 'Receptacle For The Respectable'. Rhys had been holding his guitar and rubbing it against guitarist Huw Bunford's guitar and bassist Gutos Pryce's bass guitar in a climactic end to the song, only for the power to suddenly fail. Rhys attempted to speak to the crowd, but all power had failed and his microphone was inactive. The crowd cheered and the band walked off clapping their hands in appreciation. Most of the crowd thought the set was over as a result of the problem, but the band returned to the stage three minutes later, power restored. "Sorry about that - we blew up the PA," said Rhys, before finished his band's set with 'God! Show Me Magic', 'Do Or Die' and 'The Man Don't Give A Fuck', before finally leaving the stage for good to rapturous applause. |
